How was August 2010 when they had over half a metre of snow on the toboggan runs at Lake Mountain? This will be the question that will be heard for years to come. After a week of blizzards, poor visibility and fighting with chains, this weekend is shaping up to be one of the best seen in the Victorian Alps for a number of years. The hills surrounding Marysville are covered whilst on the hill there is over 60 cm on the toboggan runs! Nice… The best toboggan for the soft stuff would have to be the supercarve whilst the pick of the toboggan runs would have to be at the Arnolds gap car park. A fave amongst the locals and usually dodgy due to it’s lower altitude. Its steep with some nice rocky outcrops for getting some good airtime.. But keep it amongst yourselves!
Speaking of hardcore tobogganing, the Lake Mountain toboggan races were held last weekend and once again our supercarves are the fastest going around. Hats off the Dixon crew who returned to the shop showing off an impressive range of silverware. Father Chris and young Luke taking out 1st and 2nd in the open section, Paige with a 3rd amongst the teenagers and mate Josh Humphrey also picking up a 2nd. Well done guys.
Great snow, weekend and stong media attention = crowds. The mountain closed for a couple of hours last Sunday due to congestion and its odds on to happen again this weekend. The team at xcsh are getting everyone into good gear and through the shop quickly. However, avoid disappointment and get in early and get a good park on the hill.
A notable staff absentee this weekend is Mel. She’s handed in a sick cert mumbling something about a couple of broken bones in her foot after a tree fell across it. Hope you’re up and around soon Mel.
Cheers Grego
