Will we be open in time for the Queens birthday weekend?…You betcha

The shops are starting to look pretty schmick and we certainly have the locals talking. It’s funny how they didn’t look that big on paper! Signage went up last week and the car parking area was also recently poured. Check out some recent shots.

In another case of onwards and upwards for the team, Cross Country Cafe – our mobile coffee van, has been put to stud on a cosy Sydney beach. For 2 years following the fires, the van has pottered around town attending farmers markets, Lake Mountain sprint series, outdoor opera performances, private functions as well as providing coffee and hot food to our customers outside our shop over the winter months. Indeed, over this last summer it has been in attendance at some memorable community events including preseason football games at Gallipoli Park, the Marysville challenge bike ride event and more recently at the Marysville to Melbourne multisport challenge.  Easily recognizable around the town, the van has continued to show our presence and committment to the local community whilst we rebuild. Our two expert baristas, Christine and Kartia Wilson, well done and see you back onsite soon.

Well, the early season dump arrived at Lake Mountain on 11th May. A Mega low hit the Victorian alps with the early signs and chatter being for another quality snow season at Lake Mountain. Meanwhile in Marysville it was pretty friggin cold with a dusting of snow and temps around 1.5 degrees celcius(windchill of -5!) Bring it on…

All the new stock has started arriving. Floors going down this Tuesday. Still a fair bit to do…

Bring on 2011

As 2010 draws to a close Lianne, myself and the rest of the team from Cross Country Ski Hire would like to wish all our customers and friends a merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.

New Beginnings…

With some heavy Spring rain threatening to delay works, the slab was put down today. SEVENTEEN trucks later! Apologies to those people travelling over the spur today who were caught up behind one of them.

It’s on again…Lake Mountain toboggan race day

Only 2 more sleeps to go before the annual toboggan races at Lake Mountain and we are out to retain the title of the ski hire with the fastest toboggan for the third year in a row. As part of our cunning plan we have purchased an additional 46
super carve toboggans! These bullets are easily the fastest going around. Get in, shit down, shut up and hang on. If plan A of flooding the field doesn’t work then we may resort to waxing a few! Look out for these brand new boards just out of their boxes and grab one as you pass by the shop on Saturday.

Well the big dumps have continued throughout the week. Monday night saw Lake Mountain receive the biggest falls in Australia. The powder capital of Australia? Maybe not quite but pretty impressive all the same. Tomorrow falls are expected down to 700 mt which should see snow on the hills around town and with 35 cm currently on the groomed areas, how good is it going to be for the weekend?!

Sadness in town this week as the first of the 18 main street oaks that died in the fires was removed. However the local tree huggars can now rejoice as the replanting was carried out today with a like for like. Onwards and upwards.

Celebrity watch this week saw ex AFL Roo boy Mick Martyn in the shop getting kitted out with family for a day up the mountain. Yeah, you don’t look so tough these days with a 3 month old daughter in your arms Mick. Not that I was going to point this out to him as I handed him some pretty frigging big clothes to wear. Congratulations to Mick and family on the arrival of number 3 and thanks for the support.

Loads going on up the hill this weekend so get in early if possible. We’ll have extra staff on trying to get people through quickly and remember, keep the kids warm and dry and mum’s happy, and if mum’s happy then dad’s happy!

Cheers Grego.
